Since we didn't get to meet each other f2f (face-to-face) we will be doing this online.

Copy and paste these questions into a Word document and type your answers there.

  1. Your Name
  2. Describe something quarky about yourself to help us remember you!
  3. If you are currently teaching, where, what grades, and what subjects?
  4. What other ISU graduate courses have you taken (course #’s and titles)
  5. If we consider literacy to be reading, writing, and speaking, what role does literacy play in your classroom? Consider your own personal teaching methods as well how you determine if students are learning this subject area content.
  6. What literacy challenges do your students have? What have you done to try and meet the needs of those students?
  7. Think about your lesson wish list. You know, a lesson or unit idea you would love to implement if you had time. Specifically consider ideas that include large literacy components (writing, reading and/or speaking). Describe your lesson idea briefly explaining the subject area content as well as the literacy component. (A Science Example: A CSI forensics trial where students write opening, closing statements, as well as questions for the trial and then act out the trial.)
  8. What technology do you use in your personal life? Consider how you listen to music, get your news, go shopping, get directions, and entertain yourself. Another way to ask this question is what are your favorite websites, software and techy gadgets?
  9. What technology do you use in preparing to teach?
  10. What technology do you use with your students? And what technologies do your students use in your class? (Feel free to add technologies you would LIKE to use with your students--but haven't yet.)

We will be conducting this discussion here in the wiki:

Original Post:

Due by Sat. Jan 17th (midnight)
  1. Once you have written your answers, click on the Discussion tab above (be sure its the discussion tab at the top of THIS page and not another page in the wiki!)
  2. Type your name in the Subject line
  3. Copy and paste your answers into the message box

Response Postings:

Due by Tuesday Jan. 13 (midnight)
Read the autobiographies of all the class members. Then respond to at least 3 different individuals. Responses should be both personal and intellectual. Make connections with your peers both on a personal level (find things you have in common) as well as having intellectual conversations regarding literacy in the content area. Feel free to post to more than 3 people. I encourage intellectually provocative posts! (Get your peers talking!)

If you like, you can load a picture into the table below. Type in your name, click on the icon of a tree in the Editor bar, upload your picture, and then double click on it. Resize it so it's small.

Enjoy getting to know you classmates!
